Latitude has confirmed that the following has been stolen:

  • 7.9 million driver’s license numbers;
  • 53,000 passport numbers; and
  • 6.1 million customer records which include personal information.

The breach has affected millions of past and present customers of Latitude Financial and is one of the biggest in Australian history. More information about the breach is still being uncovered, but as of 27 March 2023, it is estimated that the private data of up to 8 million past and current customers has been stolen.

16 March 2023:

Latitude Financial informs the Australian Stock Exchange that it has detected unusual activity on its systems indicative of a cyber-attack.

20 March 2023:

Latitude Financial releases a statement confirming that there has been a cyber-attack on its database, which is ongoing. The statement confirms that information stolen includes driver’s licenses, passports, and Medicare numbers.

22 March 2023:

Latitude Financial provides an update on the cyber-attack. It confirms it is still investigating and attempting to contain the attack.

27 March 2023

Latitude Financial releases a statement which advises that approximately 7.9 millions driver’s license numbers, 6.1 million records containing personal information, and 53,000 passport numbers have been stolen. This confirms that millions of past and present customers have been impacted, and cements this as one of the largest data breaches in Australian history.
